About

So 2 years after I graduated I decided I was up for a new adventure...So here I am in Israel teaching English and getting my masters! Look for my picture and stories here...I will try not to bore you all too much....but I am sure it won't be long until I run into a wall or hit someone with falafel by accident, so no worries!

Looking for something specific?

New Year’s Resolutions

Alright so I know this is about the time when people have started to lose faith in my ability to actually post a blog entry. And let’s be honest, I cannot really blame you. Combine my lack of internet with my lack of a time, add a hint of laziness and there you have it folks, I suck. But in the spirit of the new year (the Jewish new year that is for those of you checking your calendar to make sure we haven’t skipped ahead to January without your knowledge) I am posting a new blog entry. Get excited.

Teaching-Teaching so far has been a rollercoaster. I absolutely adore my students, my school and my fellow teachers. The only problem is that a lot of the time I am not actually teaching. I have been taking students out to speak with them, work on their grammar and practice listening and reading comprehension. I have been able to come up with a few lessons and passages myself but for the most part I just do whatever the teacher tells me to do. Sounds easy enough right? Sure it is. It is easy but people seem to be missing the point here in that I LOVE to teach and I want to actually you know, do it. I have been asserting myself more and more (or as my friends would put it “growing some balls”) and trying to put some things into action like a school newspaper in English or using music to improve listening comprehension. So we shall see how that goes.

Day to Day Life-I am definitely adjusting here, no more bus incidents thank goodness, although there is a cab driver out there somewhere who I don’t think likes me very much but what are you going to do? I am learning more Hebrew which has definitely been helpful but so far all I have really put into use is saying “I only speak a little Hebrew” instead of “I do not speak Hebrew”. I also have been testing out my new words on my students, which has been a source of great enjoyment for them. They keep calling me “Hamoodah” which means cute. Oh the joys of being a 5 foot tall 24 year old….

Alright I am leaving it at that for now but this blog will quickly be followed up by another one detailing my adventures in the Holy Land on the holiest of days…
